The Bill (Reg. No.3230) introduces amendments to the Law "On Protection of Customer´s Rights" and the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements. The amendments secure customers´ rights for reliable information about the commodities that include genetically modified objects.
The Committee members upheld the Bill, and introduced a number of remarks.
Thus, according to the Committee members, effective version of Article 15 of the Law "On Protection of Customer´s Rights" already includes a regulation concerning notification of customers about the content of genetically modified objects in the production. However, the regulation fails to be fulfilled due to the lack of clear-cut requirements concerning marking of such production, and effective governmental control over the distribution of such production at the Ukrainian market.
